“I think that exercise, relaxation, and spirit represent our mind, body, and spirit, which when balanced can bring a sense of tranquility.”

Nature | Recreation | Exercise

“I try to incorporate Nature, my favorite PassageWay element, by getting outside every day. Whether it’s gardening, taking a jog, or hiking with my camera, I love the outdoors and try to enjoy it while the weather is agreeable. I subscribe to the idea that Nature heals. Not just as a PassageWay element, but as a therapeutic vehicle, both in my life and getting to see the residents connect with Nature through Northwest Passage’s In A New Light program, that helps drive change and acceptance. I look at the PassageWay like a puzzle. Each element is its own unique piece of our life’s puzzle. As we grow, learn, and change as humans, as part of a community, more and more of the pieces come together to make for a meaningful and fulfilling life.”

QUOTE

“I am most excited about getting the residents outside, taking photos, using nature as therapy because I truly believe that experiencing the outdoors changes their perspectives, builds character, and gives them the opportunity to master the camera and photography.”

PROFILE

Brit is passionate about education and presenting curriculum so that her students can understand and relate to what they are learning. She is motivated to bring creative lesson plans to the classroom that are differentiated for a variety of learners. One way in which she does this is by incorporating a blend of hands-on learning, experiential learning, and inquiry based projects into the school curriculum. Brit believes in building a solid foundation for students to build upon, which includes reading and math interventions based off of formal and informal assessments. Brit’s goals for the classroom include improving student confidence, increasing student growth in math and reading skills, implementing technology to expand learning opportunities and to provide students with real life experiences paired with their in-class education. Brit is licensed in Wisconsin to teach Biology and Special Education (cross categorical with EBD emphasis).
